A rapidly increasing property in Kyoto. There is a wide range from luxury hotels to cheap dormitories, and there are many different types of hotels even at the same price range.
Especially with kids, the length of time spent at the hotel will be reasonably long. So you want to choose the hotel carefully to make your kids’ travel experience great and for parents to enjoy the trip, right?
Therefore, this time, we will introduce in detail why this hotel is recommended for traveling to Kyoto with kids, based on the experience of actually staying at the MIMARU Hotel recommended for family groups.
About the MIMARU group recommended for traveling with kids in Kyoto
MIMARU Hotel Group, an apartment type hotel group. It is managed by a group company of a major Japanese comprehensive housing manufacturer, and since last year it has opened hotels one after another in Tokyo and Kyoto. Currently, there are 7 locations in Tokyo and 5 locations in Kyoto. Another location is scheduled to open in Kyoto at the end of 2019 and 2 locations in Tokyo in 2020.
At MIMARU Shinmachi Sanjo in the center of Kyoto, our Daruma Kids Club is being held in a corner of a spacious lobby.
Every hotel is designed based on Japanese modern style, and the biggest feature is that all rooms have a kitchen.
Most of the display inside is Japanese-English bilingual. The front staff can also handle Japanese and English. A tablet with an interpreter app that supports 12 languages is also installed at the front desk, making it a safe place for foreign tourists to stay.
4 points of MIMARU Kyoto STATION Hotel to recommend to Kyoto travelers with kids
Here are the recommended points for travelers with kids I felt at the MIMARU Hotel.
Smooth check-in with kids! Good access.
The MIMARU Kyoto STATION Hotel we experienced this time is located on the south side of JR Kyoto Station, just across the road.
As a means of transportation from Kansai Airport to Kyoto, there is the JR limited express Haruka and the airport limousine bus. And it is a very convenient place, not only from the JR but also from the airport limousine bus drop-off location, 2 to 3 minutes on foot. Traveling with many large suitcases and with kids tired from a long flight is tough, but being able to arrive at the hotel as soon as you get off the transportation is very appreciated for both kids and parents.
And the Shinkansen platform on the southernmost side of Kyoto Station is near, so it is very convenient for those who are thinking about short trips using the Shinkansen.
Also, because it is near the largest Kyoto station in Kyoto, there are of course plenty of restaurants and shops around. Just a short walk from the hotel, you will find everything from luxury restaurants to casual restaurants and food courts, where you can dine in a place that suits your mood and needs. There are also a wide variety of shops, from department stores to discount shops and souvenir shops, so you won’t have any trouble shopping.
There are 8-person rooms where even a large number of people can stay comfortably
We stayed in an 8-person room with a total of 7 people (4 adults and 3 kids). This room is unique to an apartment hotel with 2 bedrooms and a large living space. With plenty of storage space, you can relax even if you have a long stay or have many kids.
The living room has a large table and a small table, and the larger sofas are sofa beds. There is a projector that can watch video distribution services in five languages (Japanese, English, Chinese, Taiwanese, and Korean) instead of a TV, and you can enjoy various programs on the wall. Our kids had enjoyed anime.
In addition, each room is equipped with an air humidifier, and you can also borrow a vacuum cleaner at the front desk.
Nice bedrooms for the guests with kids
The main bedroom has two bunk beds in addition to two twin beds. The second bedroom has two twin beds and two sofa beds in the living space. The main bedroom faces the living space, but there is a partition that allows adults to relax in the living room after the kids sleep at night.
A bunk bed is a size that a standard Japanese man would not feel cramped. In addition to twin beds, bunk beds are also equipped with a USB or plug for charging at the bedside.
The bunk beds seemed like the kids’ secret base for them, so they had been delighted!
Facilities that make you feel like living in Kyoto
The kitchen is a full-fledged equipped with a refrigerator with sufficient capacity, microwave oven, IH stove and electric kettle. It is an apartment itself rather than a hotel. There are plenty of kitchen tools, tableware and cutlery prepared. You can also borrow a toaster and a rice cooker at the front desk.
There is a supermarket called Harves, about a 5-minute walk from the hotel. So you can warm the prepared dishes or cook simply. Even if you have kids who don’t eat much, or if you have kids who have a lot of likes or dislikes, or if you have a baby who needs baby food, it would be nice to have a kitchen…
There is a shower room in the second bedroom as well as the main bathroom. The main one has a double sink, so there is no problem even if there are many people. It is not a unit bus that is common in regular hotels, but a separate type that is easy to use.
The main one also has a bathtub that allows you to relax and soothe your travel fatigue. As for the shower, it is fully-equipped with a built-in type that is common in Europe and the United States and a standard hand-held type in Japan. You won’t feel stress even with kids.
There is a laundromat space on the 1st floor, so you don’t have to worry about long stays. There are also pinch hangers available in the hotel room. Even with kids who tend to get dirty immediately, you can easily wash and dry their clothes. It is very helpful for travelers.
Points that you should experience with your kids at MIMARU Kyoto STATION Hotel
The station side room is especially recommended for kids
As a feature of this MIMARU Kyoto STATION Hotel, all the 8-person rooms and some 5-person rooms are located on the Kyoto station side, and you can see the Kyoto station platform and tracks from the room. The large glass windows with the windows up to the feet allow even small kids to see the train, and the kids are delighted to see the Shinkansen that frequently arrives and departs from the platform. The 2-year-old daughter stuck to the window and watched it all the time. It’s great to be able to enjoy the scenery outside while staying at the hotel!
Overlooking the superb view of Kyoto from the roof
This hotel is an apartment type, so you can go up to the rooftop space. On the rooftop, you can enjoy the scenery spreading around Kyoto Station and the hotel from a different angle than the view from the room. If your child is bored, you might also want to say, “Would you like to go up on the roof?”
That said, after 22:00, you can’t enter the building without a card key, so you can be assured of security.
MIMARU Kyoto STATION Hotel, which just opened in July of this year. Well-equipped and clean places are also appreciated for traveling with kids.
If you are planning to travel to Kyoto with kids and at a loss in your hotel, why not try this MIMARU Kyoto STATION Hotel? There is no doubt that your travel with kids will be many times more fun!
