Zoos are loved by kids all over the world, no matter where they are from. We know there zoos in other countries, but the Kyoto City Zoo had a renewal open just a few years ago and became an even better spot for families to enjoy. Today we want to share with you why the Kyoto City Zoo is so popular.
Reason 1: Kids from all countries love animals
No matter what country they are from, kids love animals. At the zoo you can see animals of all sizes from small animals like rabbits to big animals like elephants. It is fun for kids to find their favorite animal and observe them or chase them, or sometimes even talk to them. Perhaps kids can understand how the animals feel.
Reason 2: Kyoto City Zoo Animal Exhibits
Kyoto City Zoo was reformed and had a renewal opening in September 2015. With the renewal there were a lot of changes, the most obvious being the animal exhibits. They were made so that visitors could see the animals more closely and not only see them, but really feel their size and even smell them. You can see the elephants playing in the water, the tigers face while sleeping, the gorillas eating…it’s all very exciting. Even kids who may be afraid at first become enamored with the animals and can’t stop watching them.
Reason 3: At Kyoto City Zoo you can see animals native to Japan
There are animals at Kyoto City Zoo which you can only see in Japan. Mostly reptiles, some of them include the Japanese striped snake, Japanese pond turtle, Japanese rat snake. These, along with others are some of the rare animals you can see at the Kyoto City Zoo.
Reason 4: Kyoto City Zoo is the perfect size for visiting with kids
There are some famous zoos in Japan, but the Kyoto City Zoo’s size is one of its best features. Even if you visit with small children, it is just the right size to see the entire thing. For reference, the Kyoto City Zoo is about 1/9 the size of the San Diego Zoo. Even though it isn’t such a large zoo, the animal exhibits are good and you will be satisfied. Kids can run around and even small kids can make their way around the zoo walking, so it is a great place to visit while on your trip to Kyoto.
Reason 5: Kyoto City Zoo has plenty for small kids to enjoy
Right in the center of the Kyoto City Zoo is a small amusement park. With a Ferris wheel, train, bumper cars, etc. it is a popular attraction for kids visiting the zoo. Local kids go to the zoo with the expectation of playing at the amusement park. Please note the rides cost extra.
Also, since the renewal open was only a few years ago, the restrooms and nursing areas are very nice and clean. Near the entrance is a library cafe where you can take a break and look at different books about animals. It is perfect for a short rest.
Reason 6: Kyoto City Zoo entrance fee isn’t too expensive
Because Kyoto City Zoo is a city run facility, the price is budget friendly so that anyone can enjoy it. Adults can get in for ¥600 and kids under 15 are free! When you are on vacation you tend to spend a lot of money on dining out and transportation, so a day at the Kyoto City Zoo can give your wallet a little break.
Reason 7: Kyoto City Zoo is easy to get to
Because the Kyoto City Zoo is centrally located, it is easy to get to from anywhere. From Kyoto Station, you can get there in about 30 minutes. If you visit the zoo in the morning hours you can easily go to another sightseeing spot from the afternoon.
No matter where you are from, Kyoto City Zoo is sure to be like a little slice of heaven for your kids. Of course, it would be fun to go as a family, but if you aren’t as interested in the zoo as your kids, you could leave the zoo trip up to Kyoto with Kids. We have plans in the work for excursions to places kids love like the zoo. While we take your kids to the zoo and show them a good time, you can spend time enjoying the parts of Kyoto your kids may find boring like a nice lunch or visiting shrines and temples.
