In Japan, you can see convenience stores, or in Japanese, CONBINI, everywhere! CONBINI is very convenient for everyone including travelers with children. If you have a little trouble, try going to a CONBINI first. Most stores are open 24 hours so you can go there even during nighttime.
What is CONBINI?
Convenience stores were retailers born in the United States originally, but they have evolved in their own unique way in Japan. You can find convenience stores not only in urban areas but in rural areas. The popular stores are Seven-Eleven, Family Mart, and Lawson. You can buy a wide range of items, from things like underwear and stationery, to food and drinks. You can travel without a lot of baggage if there is a CONBINI near your hotel or destination.
A little hungry? Head to a CONBINI for something quick and easy
You can get snacks and drinks at CONBINI. Also, there are many traditional Japanese foods! For example, rice balls, sushi, oden (stew that contains boiled eggs, fish cakes and vegetables) and Japanese sweets.
Parents can even get alcoholic beverages. Also, you can get fresh coffee at some stores!
For kids, ice cream and fresh fruits are recommended!
Local products and confections with Japanese characters are also popular as souvenirs!
Many CONBINI have microwave ovens and hot water pots. So you can eat hot foods including fried chicken and instant noodles!
Yikes! It’s raining! Head to a CONBINI…You can buy umbrellas, raincoats and even underwear
When you travel with your baby or child, you don’t want to bring a lot of baggage. But what should you do if it starts to rain suddenly and you are without rain gear? Don’t worry! You just need to find a CONBINI! You can find rainwear and a plastic umbrella in every CONBINI.
Also, they sell underpants and socks for adults at some stores.
No money! Head to a CONBINI…You can use cashless payment and they have ATMs
Many shops in Japan still accept only cash as mentioned in a previous article. At CONBINI though, cashless payment options are available. Also, if you want some cash to keep on you, you can withdraw money at a CONBINI ATM.
You can also use the multi-copy machine to purchase things like amusement park tickets.
Children are grumpy! Head to a CONBINI…You can buy snacks and toys that will make children happy
In one section of the convenience store, you can get some Japanese snacks for children! Of course, parents can enjoy them too!
Also, you can buy things like picture books or sometimes sticker books with popular characters on them such as Doraemon, Anpanman, and Pokemon, which are very popular in Japan. If your child is tired during sightseeing and feels bad, why don’t you drop by a CONBINI?
Too much baggage! Head to a CONBINI…There is a delivery service!
Do you know you can send your baggage from a CONBINI? You can send your baggage to your hotel or to a CONBINI near your next destination. You can even send your baggage to the airport! Japan’s delivery service is excellent so if you send your baggage by 3 pm, you can usually get it the following day unless a typhoon or some disaster occurs.
Japan’s CONBINI is very convenient for tourists with children. They are open 24 hours and have pretty much anything you need! Just as CONBINI can make your trip run more smoothly, using Kyoto with Kids services can too!
